Basketball Betting Matchup: Houston Rockets at Portland Trail Blazers

Pointspread: Blazers -4
Total: 218 points

Well, the Portland Trail Blazers continue to be one of the real surprise stories in the NBA this season, and their backcourt is enough to give any team a load of problems. On Thursday night they pose a particular challenge to the Houston Rockets, who have fallen on hard times in what was already a rough season and are out of the playoff order as of the beginning of tonight’s action. The game will begin at 10:35 PM ET at the Moda Center in Portland, and BetAnySports customers will have an opportunity to place wagers on the game in real time using state-of-the-art software provided through Live Betting Extra.

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum have each scored 30 points or more in two straight games. In the last two contests they have totaled 61 and 68, as they have indeed been a dynamic duo. if they can both tally 30 points on Thursday, it will be the first teammates to do that three straight games in over six years.

Obviously if you can’t defend on the perimeter, you’ve got a lot of problems, and that has not been of particular strength of the Rockets. By the same token, these Blazer guards will have to get back and defend against outside shots themselves, as Houston puts the ball up from three-point range more often than any other team in the NBA.

While the Blazers have been a big surprise, the Rockets have been a disappointment, as they have lost four out of their last five contests, and they are currently in ninth place in the Conference despite the presence of two “superstars.” Dwight Howard is someone they were trying to unload in front of the trade deadline, but they were unsuccessful in doing so. James Harden is one of the league’s top scorers, and he had 42 points in Houston’ last game, in which were they were able to force overtime against Utah but came out on the short end of a 117-114 score. Back in November, Harden scored 45 points against the Trail Blazers.

But the loss in Salt Lake City dropped Houston back to the #9 position in the West playoff lineup. Meanwhile, Portland is on a six-game winning streak, also winning 11 out of their last 12. In their last 18 games, they have gone 15-3 straight-up and 13-5 against the NBA pointspread. And they are currently in sixth place overall in the conference, which, as BetAnySports Asian Bookies patrons know, is important, because if they stay there, they would avoid having to play either Golden State or San Antonio in the first round of the post-season.

Lillard is a guy who is making a statement in a big way, if that was his intention. Having been left out of the All-Star game, he has now topped the 30-point mark in five straight games, and that has not been done for this franchise since Ivy Leaguer Geoff Petrie accomplished it in the Blazers’ first year.

During their hot run, Portland has already registered two double-digit victories over the Rockets, beating them 96-79 on February 6 and 116-103 on February 10. Aside from Harden and Howard, the Rockets shot a collective 29.2% in those two games.
