It certainly sounds like a cliché, but it is true – we are probably looking at a preview of the Western Conference finals in tonight’s game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors. These two are far ahead of the pack in the conference, with Golden State at 40-4 straight-up and 25-17-2 ATS, while San Antonio is just two games behind at 38-6 straight-up, while covering 30 of those 44 games against the basketball pointspread. This game tips off at 10:35 PM ET at the Oracle Arena, where Golden State is not only 20-0 straight-up this season, but has 38 consecutive regular-season victories. Fans in the United States will be able to see this game on the NBA Network, and BetAnySports customers will be able to place wagers during the action through the state-of-the-art software provided by Live Betting Extra.

San Antonio is on a hot streak right now, having won 13 straight games, and they are 13-7 against the pointspread on the road. That could be a significant technical figure, because Golden State is only 9-10-1 against the points on their home floor. We will say this – the Warriors get a bit of an emotional boost as Steve Kerr returns to the sidelines as head coach. If you recall, he had back surgery and had to sit out the first half of the season while Luke Walton took over, and this team definitely do not suffer for it. In fact, they won the first 24 games out of the box, and they are on a projection to win over 74 games, which would set an all-time record.

These teams are near the top of the heap when it comes to many of the meaningful stats. The Spurs are the best in the NBA when it comes to Defensive Rating, and they have permitted only 42.6% accuracy on the part of their opponents (31.7% from three-point range). Meanwhile, San Antonio shoots 49% from the floor, making them the most accurate team in the NBA. But Golden State is right there with them, at 48.6%, and they play some pretty good defense as well, yielding only 42.8% from the floor and 30.8% from the arc (best in the league).

Another hallmark of both of these teams is their ability to move the ball around the court. Golden State is the best in the NBA with 28.9 assists per game. BetAnySports patrons might think such a thing is unlikely, given the fact that they don’t exactly have the classic “point guard.” Stephen Curry is a scorer primarily, and that is illustrated by the fact that he averages 30.1 points per game and has taken (and made) far more three-pointers than anyone.

San Antonio is known for its “Big Three” that has taken it to so many championships. But they are refueling; LaMarcus Aldridge, one of the premier power forwards in the NBA, came aboard this season and has bought into the idea of sacrificing personal numbers in the pursuit of a title. Aldridge is averaging just 15.9 points and 8.9 rebounds, but he isn’t necessarily any less effective. His playing time has simply been reduced, to 29.6 minutes per game, and that is in keeping with great Popovich’s philosophy of keeping his starters fresh for the playoff run.

One veteran who has benefited from that over the years is Tim Duncan, who is averaging 26 minutes, during which time he is scoring just 8.9 points but is very valuable from a defensive standpoint. Duncan will be missing on Monday night, as he sits out with what Popovich terms “knee soreness.” This is not altogether unusual for the Spurs to do, but obviously it has aroused some curiosity in the media because of the perceived importance of this game. Indeed, if these clubs wind up in a tie atop the conference, whoever wins the season series will get the home court advantage, and to put it bluntly, nobody wants to play either of these teams on their home floor.
