NFL Betting Preview: Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons

Pointspread: Panthers -7 (+100) / Falcons +7 (-120)
Total: 47 points

Can the Carolina Panthers get to 16-0 on the regular season? There are not too many steps left, and one of them is against a team that have already beaten by a wide margin, and recently too. The Atlanta Falcons provide the opposition at 1 PM ET at the Georgia Dome, as Carolina also goes about the business of trying to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, which believe it or not, is not a certainty yet. Remember that even after the opening kickoff, BetAnySports customers have the opportunity to place their wagers in real-time through the magic of Live Betting Extra.

Carolina is currently 14-0 straight-up and 10-4 against the football pointspread, and they have scored at least 27 points in a dozen straight games. That’s a tremendous testament to the coaching staff, which, truth be told, did not have a whole lot of material to work with at the outset of the season. Cam Newton has really raised the level of his game, to the point where he is a popular favorite to win the Most Valuable Player award, and the numbers are good, including 33 touchdown passes and 580 rushing yards. Last week against the New York Giants he had five TDs and reached the 100-yard mark on the ground, and the Panthers needed his talents in the waning moments to stave off a Giants team that had come all the way back from being 28 points down to tie it. The Panthers also had some anxious moments against New Orleans three weeks ago. Sometimes, however, you’ve got to survive some close calls along the way.

Atlanta won its first five games, but now sits with a 7-7 straight-up mark (5-9 ATS), and they really went into the tank, losing six straight games until surviving against Jacksonville last week. Maybe that provide some of the impetus for them to get some payback against Carolina, which beat them from pillar to post in a 38-0 whitewash just a couple of weeks ago. When you have thrown 15 interceptions like Matt Ryan has, you have to do an awful lot to make up for it, and while everyone would agree that the Falcons are improved defensively this season under first-year coach Dan Quinn, BetAnySports USA online Sportsbooks patrons also know that the passing game is often a one-trick pony. Of course, if Julio Jones (118 catches) turns into a stallion on Sunday, Atlanta has the ability to give the Panthers a hard time.

Keep in mind that Carolina is going without its top running back, Jonathan Stewart, who has a sprained foot, so it will have to be more or less a committee effort that includes Cameron Artis-Payne and Mike Tolbert. For the Falcons, Devonta Freeman has an opportunity to go over 1000 yards rushing in this one, but he’s had some injury concerns that has scored only twice in the last nine weeks.
